Welcome to The Official Rebecca Johnston Website!
I think the cliché, “Living the Dream” is the most accurate assessment of my time spent with the Canadian national women’s hockey team. I feel privileged and honored to have had the opportunity to represent Canada at every world championships since 2007. Representing Canada at the Vancouver Olympics in 2010 is an experience that will never be surpassed.
Training and competing has offered me the opportunity to travel to exotic cities on three different continents and to countries as far away as China. On occasion, when we have played to capacity crowds in excess of 18,000 people, it is an exhilarating experience that parallels many other high profile sports. It is fair to say that women’s hockey has made tremendous strides in recent years!
I have endured many challenges and set-backs in my career which are similar to those faced by other athletes, but in my eyes what makes hockey so special to me personally is that the “journey to excellence” is not an easy road. The commitment to long hours of training, working through injuries, and handling the stresses associated with performing at an elite level are all part of the game. The more difficult the journey, the more cherished the ultimate goal. While Olympic glory is the pinnacle achievement of our sport, success is never guaranteed and a hockey player’s longevity can be short lived! In light of this, I savor every moment I spend on the national team, never taking for granted the privilege given me to play a sport I truly love.
Along the way I have developed long lasting friendships and have crossed paths with some amazing people. These relationships are the true treasure of my experiences with the national team. Without the support of my parents, friends and family members, my accomplishments and successes would never have been possible, so I thank them for their continued support in my career.
I hope by looking through my website you gain some insight into my journey through the sport of women’s ice hockey!
